Green Carbon, Inc. has signed an MOU with ASINCV regarding cooperation in generating carbon credit by introducing AWD in Vietnam.

Utilizing the rice field potential of approximately 110,000 hectares in Thanh Hoa Province.

Green Carbon, inc. (CEO: Jun Okita, hereinafter referred to as “Green Carbon”) is pleased to announce the signing of an MOU with the Agriculture Science Institute of Northern Central Vietnam (ASINCV, Deputy Director: Mr. Trinh Duc Toan), regarding cooperation on carbon credit generation through the introduction of AWD in Vietnam’s Northern Central region.

◆Background and Roles of MOU with ASINCV

Green Carbon is dedicated to generating carbon credits from natural sources, focusing on Southeast Asia, including initiatives such as methane reduction in rice paddies, livestock emissions reduction, and biochar projects. Particularly in Vietnam, we have been actively engaged in rice paddy projects. To advance our rice paddy project in Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, we have signed an MOU with ASINCV.

ASINCV’s role includes cooperation on the *¹ AWD project in Thanh Hoa Province, advocating for and introducing the project to local farmers, creating guidance materials and providing training for AWD adoption, methane gas measurement, and collaborating with relevant authorities. Green Carbon will collaborate with local partners and universities in Vietnam to gather necessary data and handle the issuance and sale of carbon credits.

Initially, we will launch the project in Thanh Hoa Province, covering up to approximately 110,000 hectares, with plans to expand across Vietnam.

*¹ AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying)
AWD is a technique that involves periodically flooding and naturally drying paddy fields based on the water level. Compared to continuous flooding, AWD can reduce water usage and contribute to the conservation of water resources.

◆Introduction to Green Carbon Business
Green Carbon operates with the vision of “Saving the Earth with the Power of Life,” providing comprehensive support from carbon credit creation, registration, to sales. Additionally, we are involved in agriculture-related businesses, research and development, ESG consulting, among others. Our main focus is on the creation of carbon credits through methane gas reduction in rice paddies, where we have obtained certification for J-Credits, the first and largest in Japan (approximately 6,220 tons), and plan to expand to around 50,000 hectares in the fiscal year 2024. We also offer a service called “Agreen” that integrates credit registration, application, and sales into one platform, simplifying procedures such as application registration and document preparation, thus reducing the workload for credit creators.

◆Introduction to ASINCV
ASINCV was established in 2016 based on Prime Minister’s Decision No. 208/QD-TTg .dated September 9, 2005. Its mission is to research crop science and agricultural systems that contribute to the socio-economic development of the Central Northern region of Vietnam (comprising six provinces). Specifically, ASINCV focuses on the breeding and selection of high-yield and high-quality crops, as well as researching technologies suitable for crop cultivation such as water management. These technologies are disseminated as projects across the six provinces to facilitate their adoption and implementation.
