We conducted an interview with Maeno yuri, who is working as an intern. Please read through to the end!
Q.Please give a brief self-introduction.
I am currently in my fourth year at the Faculty of Integrated Human Sciences at Sophia University (I was studying abroad, so I am effectively in my fifth year). At university, I am studying International Education and Development in a seminar that deals with a wide range of global issues, including education in developing regions and post-conflict societies. After graduation, I plan to work for an energy-related company. I have just recently started writing my graduation thesis and am struggling to graduate successfully..!
On a personal note, I love sports. I was a competitive swimmer until I graduated from high school, and from university I was a member of the athletics ground hockey club; I retired from the club in my fourth year, so I have fewer opportunities to play hockey, but now I run alone to compete in winter marathons. I am proud of my dark skin, which is tanned and dark in all seasons, and I have a complex lol.
Q.What made you decide to work for GreenCarbon?
My university life was dominated by club activities, so I wanted to expand my learning. When I was looking for a long-term internship after I had finished my job search, I came across Green Carbon.
To begin with, my job search focused on the energy and plant engineering industries. This was because I had spent my childhood abroad and studied at university, and I wanted to be involved in work that supports the fundamentals of life and industry on the global stage. I was aware of the existence of ‘carbon credits’ in this context, but as a humanities student, I had no experience of studying related fields.
I became interested in Green Carbon for rather simple reasons: ‘English might be useful’ and ‘it might be useful after I get a job’. When I heard about the nature of the business at the interview, I felt that it was exactly where I wanted to be, and I joined the company because I wanted to study here for the rest of my time as a student.
Q.What type of work are you involved in? Please tell us about your work.
I am involved in all aspects of overseas business and am involved in a wide range of activities, including documentation, research and communication with overseas traders. I have had the opportunity to speak at events and do a lot of work on the front side. However, my knowledge is still limited and I am learning from employees and other interns every day. I often come across words I have never heard of before, so I have to look them up and absorb new knowledge on a daily basis.
I strongly feel that the beauty of Green Carbon is that each of us has our own strengths and works together to create something. I myself have my own strengths, which I can entrust to Maeno. I am also seeking to develop my own strengths so that I can be entrusted with the work of Green Carbon.
Q.What makes your job worthwhile?
It is an unknown area, which is why your own way of thinking is so important. As there are no precedents, I spend my days exploring the potential of the project through research. In this process, I find it interesting to think of my own way of leading up to the answer, and to go through trial and error.
I am also motivated and rewarded by the thought that my current efforts could eventually become a project that contributes to decarbonisation!
Q.Finally, do you have a message for those who want to work for GreenCarbon?
Green Carbon is a place where each and every employee and intern can shine. Whatever your background, I believe you will find a field or task that you find interesting. I also feel that this is an environment where you can build your own strengths.
Let’s explore new fields together! We look forward to working with you!
