We interviewed Jane, who works as a Business Development Manager in the Global Sourcing Department. Please read to the end!
1. Please introduce yourself briefly, including your career so far.
Hi, I’m Jane from Malaysia. My journey began with studying International Politics at Tsinghua University in China, and more recently, I graduated with a master’s degree in Film Studies from Waseda University in Japan. I know it might seem like an unconventional path, with none of my majors connected to my current career, but I’ve always been someone who thrives on exploring new fields that allow me to apply my diverse skills.
Throughout my academic life, I’ve been committed to SDGs-related activities, such as working as a fellow scholar researching and participating in refugee and statelessness issues. I’ve also been involved in environmental protection initiatives during my undergraduate studies. These experiences have inspired me to decide to contribute to environmental issues professionally as my first career after graduating with a master’s degree. And it is always fun and challenging finding ways to blend my knowledge and skills with a career that makes a difference in the world, and Green Carbon offers the innovative platform for me to do that.
2. What kind of work are you involved in? Please tell us about your job responsibilities.
Currently, I’m part of Green Carbon’s Business Development team in the Global Sourcing Department, where I manage projects across Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. My role is an exciting blend of dynamism and multitasking, as I dive into the heart of projects, planning, coordinating, and managing every detail from start to finish.
For new projects, I create the roadmap, develop ideas, and strategize on how to expand and develop them. For ongoing projects, I act as the main coordinator, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration between different teams and external partners. My mission is always to keep everything on track and ensure the project is executed seamlessly.
Beyond this, I represent Green Carbon at international environmental programs and events, where I promote our business concept and work on raising awareness about carbon footprints and carbon credits. This not only helps increase our visibility but also opens doors to exciting business opportunities.
Our Global Sourcing team is an absolute joy to be part of. It’s a vibrant international team with members from different countries, and we frequently have brainstorming sessions to plan new projects and address challenges together. Everyone is absolutely supportive and eager to share knowledge, that you can really grow rapidly in such a collaborative environment.
3. What makes your work fulfilling?
For me, what makes my work fulfilling is when I can really make a tangible contribution to the environment in a way that directly helps people on the ground, especially farmers. We visited the fields and saw how the farmers work, and we collaborate with them on projects by providing techniques that can reduce emissions and increase crop yields at the same time. It’s not just about sitting in the office and coordinating things, it’s about going to the field, learning practical knowledge, and understanding the actual situations of local communities. When we develop rice paddy projects, it’s fascinating and fulfilling to work directly with farmers who are producing our food. Plus, I get to learn about different cultures when coordinating with the partners with different backgrounds targeting the same goals as we are, which helps me adapt our strategies to their local communities. It’s the combination of all these experiences that makes my work so rewarding.
4. What would you like to challenge in the future?
In the future, I’d love to get involved in more varieties of agricultural projects to really learn and gain hands-on experience, especially in sustainability for agriculture, which is something we’re already working on. I want to create strategies that empower local communities more as we expand, particularly when it comes to reforestation, which needs a lot of involvement from the local and native communities. As I grow in this role, I also hope to bring my own ideas to the team. Looking further ahead, I’m really excited about exploring opportunities in South America. There’s so much potential there, but the cultural gap will definitely be bigger than what we’ve faced before, and I’m ready for that challenge.
5. Lastly, please share a message for those who want to work at GreenCarbon.
