For this article, we sat down with Mr. Thanh, Business Development Manager at Green Carbon Vietnam! This marks our first interview with one of our overseas team members. As a key player in our Vietnam operations, what insights will Tan share with us? Read on to find out!
Q. Could you please provide a brief self-introduction, including an overview of your career to date?
I have working 14 years in agriculture and rural development sector in Vietnam. From 2010 to 2024, I worked in through many projects under DARDs, MARD and international organization such as JICA, world bank, ADB .etc all over Vietnam.
Q. What kind of work are you involved in? Could you share more about your roles?
From 2010 to 2023, I worked as engineer in the hydraulic engineering consultants company.
Especially, from 2021 to 2023, i cooperated with JIRCAS to research AWD technical of rice paddy in some pilot projects.
From October 2023 to now, i worked for Green Carbon INC. to develop the AWD project for adaptation climate change in Vietnam.
Q. What led you to pursue your current job?
I studied the environmental management course hold by ADB in 2013, it was build my vision for job in long-term as protection environment. Current job is leading to the global goal. It is my goal as well.
Q. What do you find most rewarding or fulfilling about your work?
Working with diverse stakeholders, including corporations, governments, and NGOs, fosters a sense of community and shared purpose in tackling climate change. The carbon credit market is expanding, providing me with opportunities to grow professionally and develop new skills in emerging areas
Q. What challenges have you faced so far?
Fluctuations in regulations and policies can create uncertainty, making it difficult to plan long-term projects.
Engaging and aligning multiple stakeholders, including local communities, businesses, and governments, can be challenging and requires effective communication.
Addressing these challenges typically requires strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, and adaptability to changing circumstances.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years, and what are the challenges you’re excited to take on ?
The carbon credit market is expected to mature, with clearer regulations and standards that enhance credibility and facilitate wider participation from businesses and investors in 10 years. I have to learn the innovations in MRV (monitoring, reporting, and verification) technologies, such as blockchain and satellite imagery, could improve transparency and efficiency in tracking emissions reductions.
As the field grows, there will likely be increased education and awareness about the carbon credit system, leading to higher levels of participation and understanding among businesses, consumers, and policymakers.
