We are pleased to announce that we will be speaking at the “Seminar on Sharing Experiences and Situations in Agricultural Production between Vietnamese and Japanese Farmers, Farms, and Agricultural Associations” jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (hereinafter referred to as MARD) and the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (hereinafter referred to as VNUA).
◆Outline of Vietnam Agricultural Human Resources Development Project
This seminar was held as part of the “Agricultural Human Resource Development Project at Vietnam National University of Agriculture” certified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on March 27, 2023, with the aim of sharing information on issues in Japanese agriculture, results of technology application, and current situation and measures for human resource shortage, and to contribute to future agricultural development in Vietnam.
The seminar was attended mainly by local government agencies and agriculture-related organizations, including MARD, VNUA, Vietnamese agricultural cooperatives, and the Central Farmers’ Association. From Japan, public organizations such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Miyazaki Prefecture, as well as organizations and companies that are active in exchanges with Vietnam, such as “Niinuma Tomo Farm,” participated and shared their initiatives.
◆About the Speaker
This initiative prompted VNUA to invite me to speak at the seminar to introduce to Vietnamese government officials and businesses the GHG reduction activities in the agricultural sector in Vietnam and the potential for carbon credit creation.
At the seminar, I explained about the carbon credit creation project by “reducing methane gas by introducing water management methods in rice paddies” and “reducing methane gas by feeding cattle with feed that reduces burping”.
Green Carbon is currently conducting joint research with VNUA on AWD2 in rice paddies with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam’s agricultural sector by approximately 21 million tons1.
*1: Calculated as a reduction of 3 tons of CO2 equivalent per hectare of rice paddies (varies depending on conditions such as conventional farming methods).
*2: A method of repeatedly flooding and naturally drying rice paddies every few days based on the water level in the paddies.
