Proposing the Utilization of Carbon Credits to Address Social Issues in Mongolia
Green Carbon, Inc. (CEO: Jun Okita, hereinafter referred to as Green Carbon) is pleased to announce its participation in the Reverse Pitch of the Mongolia Innovation Mission, held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This event was co-hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Mongolia-Japan Human Resource Development Center (MOJC).
During the Reverse Pitch, Green Carbon proposed initiatives addressing critical issues in Mongolia, including the composting of livestock manure and the management of forest pests in northern Mongolia through improved forest management and carbon credit generation. These proposals received high praise and recognition for their potential impact.
◆Overview of the Mongolia Innovation Mission
Mongolia is one of the rapidly growing economies in Central Asia, recording a real GDP growth rate of 7.0% in 2023. Despite this impressive economic growth, the country faces significant social challenges, including air pollution and persistent traffic congestion around the capital city. To address these issues, Mongolia is strengthening collaborations with Japanese startups.
From August 19 to 21, 2024, the Mongolia Innovation Mission took place, featuring exchanges and site visits with local companies. The networking events included reverse pitches from Japanese companies and interactions with Mongolian businesses and organizations.

◆Background of Green Carbon’s Participation
Green Carbon is dedicated to generating nature-based carbon credits, primarily focusing on Southeast Asia. Our diverse projects include forest conservation, rice paddy management, mangrove reforestation, methane reduction from cattle, and biochar initiatives.
Our efforts in creating carbon credits through these nature-based projects were recognized, leading to an invitation from JAXA to present at the event. During the Reverse Pitch, Green Carbon proposed solutions to pressing social issues in Mongolia, such as composting livestock manure and improving forest management in northern Mongolia through pest control and carbon credit generation. These proposals received high praise.
Looking ahead, Green Carbon plans to leverage its expertise in carbon credit generation from Southeast Asia to collaborate with local universities and businesses in Mongolia. We aim to address environmental challenges related to forests and grasslands in Mongolia with effective solutions.
◆Introduction of Green Carbon
Green Carbon operates with the vision of “Saving the Earth with the Power of Life,” providing comprehensive support from carbon credit creation, and registration, to sales. Additionally, we are involved in agriculture-related businesses, research and development, and ESG consulting, among others. Our main focus is on the creation of carbon credits through methane gas reduction in rice paddies, where we have obtained certification for J-Credits, the first and largest in Japan (approximately 6,220 tons), and plan to expand to around 50,000 hectares in the fiscal year 2024. We also offer a service called “Agreen” that integrates credit registration, application, and sales into one platform, simplifying procedures such as application registration and document preparation, thus reducing the workload for credit creators
