Green Carbon, Inc. has signed an MOU with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) Hai Duong Province in Vietnam.

Aims to undertake a methane gas reduction project in a maximum of 55,000 ha of paddy fields.

Green Carbon, Inc. (CEO: Jun Okita, hereinafter referred to as Green Carbon) is pleased to announce that it has signed an MOU with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of *¹Hai Duong Province in northern Vietnam. The MOU aims to promote a project targeting the creation of carbon credits for a maximum paddy field area of 55,000 hectares.

◆Background and Role of the MOU with DARD in Hai Duong Province

Green Carbon is dedicated to generating nature-based carbon credits, focusing primarily on Southeast Asia. The company is involved in a broad range of projects including forest conservation, paddy fields, mangrove reforestation, livestock methane reduction, and biochar. In Vietnam, Green Carbon primarily focuses on paddy field projects, actively operating in Nam Dinh, Nghe An, Vinh Phuc, and An Giang provinces. To advance its paddy field project in Hai Duong Province, Green Carbon has signed an MOU with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), marking its fifth provincial MOU in Vietnam.

This MOU follows the evaluation by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of our demonstration experiments with the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) and our project in Nghe An Province. The collaboration with DARD will focus on supporting the AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying) project in Hai Duong Province, including recommending and guiding local farmers, introducing the project, and requesting cooperation from relevant agencies.

DARD will primarily focus on collaborating on the *²AWD project in Hai Duong Province, recommending and introducing it to local farmers, providing guidance to farmers, and requesting cooperation from relevant agencies. Green Carbon will collaborate with local research institutions and universities in Vietnam to measure methane emissions from paddy fields, collect necessary data, and handle carbon credit issuance and sales. Initially, we will implement a carbon credit generation project over a maximum of 55,000 hectares of paddy fields in Hai Duong Province over the next decade, with plans to expand this initiative across Vietnam.

In Hai Duong Province, we have already identified demonstration plots through site visits and completed training for the first-year project participants in collaboration with VNUA. We are now advancing discussions with DARD to facilitate future expansion

*¹:Hai Duong Province

Hai Duong Province is located in the Red River Delta, benefiting from a climate suitable for growing crops such as rice, fruits, and vegetables. The region features extensive, fertile plains with widespread paddy fields. Green Carbon aims to contribute to the development of sustainable agricultural production in Hai Duong Province by focusing on reducing methane emissions from paddy fields.

*²:AWD(Alternate Wetting & Drying)

AWD is a technique that involves periodically flooding and naturally drying paddy fields based on the water level. Compared to continuous flooding, AWD can reduce water usage and contribute to the conservation of water resources.。

◆Introduction to Green Carbon, Inc.

Green Carbon operates with the vision of “Saving the Earth with the Power of Life,” providing comprehensive support from carbon credit creation, registration, to sales. Additionally, we are involved in agriculture-related businesses, research and development, ESG consulting, among others. Our main focus is on generation carbon credits through methane gas reduction in rice paddies, where we have obtained certification for J-Credits, the first and largest in Japan (approximately 6,220 tons), and plan to expand to around 50,000 hectares in the fiscal year 2024. We also offer a service called “Agreen” that integrates credit registration, application, and sales into one platform, simplifying procedures such as application registration and document preparation, thus reducing the workload for credit creators.
