Q. Please give us a brief introduction of yourself, including your career history.

I am majoring in Agricultural Economics at McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. I lived in Chiba Prefecture until I graduated from high school, and moved to Montreal, Canada to attend university.

I chose Canada, one of the world’s leading agricultural nations, because I wanted to work in agriculture, but I was also drawn to the diversity of Montreal, where English and French coexist, which led me to decide to attend McGill University. Although winters in Canada are harsh, I enjoy winter sports such as skating and skiing, leading a fulfilling life.

Q. What made you decide to work at Green Carbon?

While majoring in agricultural economics at university, I deepened my knowledge of the interrelationship between agriculture and economics, as well as efforts to address social issues, including environmental problems. In my search for a long-term internship that would allow me to apply my knowledge in a more practical way, I came across an interview article featuring Green Carbon interns and decided to join the company because I resonated with its approach of contributing to the sustainable resolution of environmental and social issues through business.

Q. What challenges have you faced so far?

When I first started my internship, I understood the basic mechanisms of the carbon market, but I did not have in-depth knowledge of the details of the system and regulations. In addition, government-related materials in Quebec are provided in French, which made it difficult for me to understand. However, by gradually learning and accumulating knowledge, I am now able to calmly respond even when encountering technical terms.

Q. What kind of work are you involved in? Please tell us about your job duties.

I have been involved in research on the carbon credit market in Canada, particularly in Quebec. In Quebec, I participated in the process of evaluating the suitability and feasibility of projects, taking into account the characteristics of the province’s unique cap-and-trade system and related regulations.

What challenges do you want to take on in the future?

I am currently studying French and would like to experience living in France in the future. I have also recently become absorbed in making tacos at home, so I would like to visit Mexico City at least once!

As an intern, my primary goal is to deepen my learning by engaging in a wider range of business activities, while first gaining a solid understanding of basic carbon market terminology and the mechanisms of project development in Canada. Building on that foundation, I aim to actively participate in the execution of new projects, apply the knowledge I have gained, and identify potential opportunities in new markets to propose innovative solutions.

Finally, please share a message for those who wish to work at Green Carbon.

At Green Carbon, we work alongside people from diverse backgrounds, inspiring each other every day. We also enjoy the excitement of developing new markets from scratch and the flexibility of being able to work from overseas. We look forward to working with you, whether you are a working professional or a student intern.
