Q. Please give us a brief self-introduction, including your background.

My name is Ayane Nakayama. I am studying in the Faculty of Law, Department of Political Science at Keio University, where I focus on consumer society theory in my seminar. In particular, I am researching social trends related to sustainability, such as “ethical consumption,” as part of my graduation thesis. Reading works like Silent Spring by Rachel Carson and Theory of Modern Society by Sosuke Mita has made me aware of how people’s consumption behaviors deeply influence social structures and generate negative externalities. I have also become interested in the role that companies can play in addressing these issues, and I wish to deepen my practical knowledge to contribute to a sustainable society.

At university, I was involved in the University Festival Executive Committee and in organizing TEDxUTokyo, gaining experience in creating results by collaborating with diverse people. My academic focus is political science, and I am particularly interested in social issues such as ethical consumption and sustainability, which I continue to research.

Q. What motivated you to join GreenCarbon?

After finishing my job-hunting process, I had more time and wanted to gain more practical experience in a field I had long been interested in. That’s why I decided to join GreenCarbon as an intern.

Q. What kind of work are you involved in?

I am part of the Domestic Business Division, where I am involved in application tasks related to carbon credits and projects for developing internal systems.

Q. Why did you decide to work at GreenCarbon?

Through my studies at university, my interest in sustainability deepened, and I was looking for a place where I could explore it at a practical level. I felt that GreenCarbon is genuinely committed to reducing environmental impact and solving social issues, and I believed it would be an environment where I could refine my values and career perspectives beyond the typical internship experience.

Q. What has made you happy while working at GreenCarbon?

At first, I didn’t fully understand the systems or the background of the work, but as I built up experience day by day, I gradually began to understand, and that’s when I really felt my own growth. I also appreciate that my growth is acknowledged and given clear feedback, which motivates me to take on the next challenge. It also made me very happy when I was entrusted with more responsibilities.

Q. What kind of person do you want to be in 10 years?

I plan to work for a company related to the primary industry, and within that field, I want to become someone who can contribute to promoting ESG and GX initiatives. Moreover, I want to always carry with me the mindset I saw in GreenCarbon’s team members—“to boldly take on unknown fields and open up new possibilities”—and apply it throughout my life.

Q. Lastly, do you have a message for those who want to work at GreenCarbon?

Even as an intern, GreenCarbon provides an environment where you are entrusted with significant responsibility. That’s why you can really feel your own growth by having your own opinions and taking proactive action, and the warm support from those around you makes the challenge even more rewarding. It’s truly an ideal environment for anyone who wants to take on new challenges.
