Background of This Project

Ten-ei Village, in its “Ten-ei Village Global Warming Countermeasure Implementation Plan” revised in FY2022 (※1), has set a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45.95% by 2030 compared to FY2022 levels, with the aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

With approximately 1,200 hectares of farmland (including both rice paddies and upland fields), Ten-ei Village holds significant potential for generating and utilizing J-Credits in the agricultural sector.

In light of this background, Green Carbon and Ten-ei Village concluded an agreement in September 2025. As the first project under this agreement, the initiative will generate J-Credits through the extension of the midseason drainage period in rice cultivation, creating an example of new income opportunities for farmers beyond conventional crop production.

◆Future Outlook

Green Carbon is engaged in activities based on the J-Credit methodology AG-005 “Extension of the Midseason Drainage Period in Rice Cultivation”, under which rice produced by extending the midseason drainage period for at least seven days longer than the average of the past two or more years in a given paddy field is distributed as “Environmentally Friendly Rice.”

Ten-ei Village, meanwhile, was the first municipality to be certified as an “Kankyo(Environmental) Kingdom” and is blessed with a rich natural environment and pristine water that foster a variety of high-quality agricultural products. Among them is “Tenei rice” (※ 2), which boasts a remarkable record of 13 Gold Awards at the International Contest on Rice Taste Evaluation.

By adding the environmental value of “Environmentally Friendly Rice” to the superior taste of “Tenei rice,” the initiative aims to further enhance its brand power.
