Introduced the creation of carbon credit businesses utilizing satellite technology and decarbonization technologies
Green Carbon, Inc. (CEO: Jun Okita, hereafter referred to as “Green Carbon”) is pleased to announce that it participated in the panel discussion at the “Cambodia-Japan Economic ‘Co-Creation’ Networking Symposium (Second Edition)” held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The event was co-hosted by JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). During the symposium, Green Carbon introduced the creation of carbon credit businesses utilizing satellite technology and decarbonization technologies.
◆Overview of the Cambodia-Japan Economic Co-Creation Networking Symposium (Second Edition)
Following last year’s event, JETRO and JAXA held a networking event in Cambodia to promote further economic co-creation between Japan and Cambodia, focusing on carbon credit businesses and aiming for carbon neutrality and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Cambodia, preparations are underway for establishing a carbon credit exchange, and there is increasing interest from both the public and private sectors in gathering information and developing businesses related to carbon credits.
On the morning of the 7th, the symposium featured panel discussions introducing Japanese companies’ technologies and services related to business opportunities and solutions in this field, segmented by industry (agriculture, forestry, manufacturing). The event concluded with a networking session where participants from Cambodia had the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas.

◆Background of the participation of Green Carbon
Green Carbon is actively involved in creating nature-based carbon credits, focusing primarily on Southeast Asia. Our efforts span a range of projects including forest conservation, rice paddies, mangrove reforestation, reducing methane emissions from livestock, and biochar projects.
We have established a connection with JETRO through a project in Vietnam¹, where we were introduced to the Vietnam National University of Agriculture. This led to collaborative research aimed at methane gas emission reduction through AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying) implementation in rice paddies. Additionally, we are conducting joint research with JAXA, having been selected for a commercialization demonstration utilizing JAXA’s satellite data (DAICHI-2)².
Given this background, Green Carbon was invited to participate in the panel discussion at the symposium. During the event, we presented our rice paddy projects, showcasing our pioneering efforts and initiatives in Southeast Asia (Philippines and Vietnam), and explained the carbon credit creation potential in Cambodia. Our presentation was highly appreciated.
Looking ahead, we plan to leverage our project experience in Southeast Asia, particularly in the Philippines and Vietnam, to advance projects in Cambodia. Cambodia holds significant potential with its extensive rice paddies and forest areas, as well as opportunities for biochar production from mangroves and agricultural residues. By generating carbon credits, we aim to contribute to Cambodia’s decarbonization efforts.

◆Introduction of Green Carbon
Green Carbon operates with the vision of “Saving the Earth with the Power of Life,” providing comprehensive support from carbon credit creation, and registration, to sales. Additionally, we are involved in agriculture-related businesses, research and development, and ESG consulting, among others. Our main focus is on the creation of carbon credits through methane gas reduction in rice paddies, where we have obtained certification for J-Credits, the first and largest in Japan (approximately 6,220 tons), and plan to expand to around 50,000 hectares in the fiscal year 2024. We also offer a service called “Agreen” that integrates credit registration, application, and sales into one platform, simplifying procedures such as application registration and document preparation, thus reducing the workload for credit creators
