Green Carbon Inc. (CEO: Jun Okita, hereafter referred to as “Green Carbon”), a company engaged in the creation and sale of nature-based carbon credits, has participated as a speaker after receiving two consecutive years of invitation at the “ASEAN-Japan Future Generation Business Leaders’ Summit” (hereafter referred to as “the event”) held on Wednesday, December 18 to Friday, December 20, 2024 in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. At this event, Green Carbon held discussions with young entrepreneurs from ASEAN countries on the co-creation potential for ASEAN-Japan in building a sustainable society.

Overview of the ASEAN-Japan Future Generation Business Leaders’ Summit
This event is a program that aimed at fostering young talent who will be the future leaders of ASEAN countries and Japan. The program aims to cultivate an international perspective and leadership skills required for solving social issues through the networking of leaders playing an active role in various fields.

◆Background in Participation of the Event
Green Carbon is actively engaged in the development of nature-based carbon credits, primarily in Southeast Asia. We undertake a diverse range of projects tailored to the characteristics of natural resources in each region, including forest conservation, paddy field management, mangrove reforestation, methane emission reduction from livestock, and biochar utilization. Additionally, Green Carbon leverages satellite data for site selection and monitoring of its projects.
In ASEAN countries, increasing greenhouse gas emissions due to economic growth has become a critical challenge, making climate change measures an urgent priority. Additionally, poverty issues in rural areas are becoming more severe, making the improvement of farmers’ income another crucial concern.
Following our invitation from JETRO last year, we were honored to be invited again this year to participate in this event. Through networking with young leaders from ASEAN countries, we engaged in discussions aimed at gaining insights for future business development and promoting solutions to regional challenges in ASEAN.
◆Activities held at the Event and Future Prospects
Green Carbon participated in the following panel discussion held on Friday, December 20:
1. ”ASEAN-Japan Cooperation”
Based on the establishment of the “AESAN-Japan Co-Creation Ecosystem” and the “AESAN-Japan Young Business Leaders Community”, confirmed last year on the 50th anniversary of friendship ties with AESAN-Japan. Discussed recent cooperation and future prospects with AESAN-Japan.
2. ”ASEAN x Japan x Sustainability and Decarbonization”
Discussed private-public partnerships and business-led approaches towards challenges in balancing energy demand growth and economic development specific to ASEAN countries.
Additionally, during the networking session of this event, we received numerous individual meeting requests from young entrepreneurs from ASEAN countries for an active exchange of opinions. During a particular meeting held with entrepreneurs from Cambodia and Brunei, we discussed the possibility for collaboration based on the potential in nature-based carbon credit creation and the latest trends in the international carbon credit market.
Green Carbon will use the networks fostered in the event as a foundation to accelerate its cooperation with partners located in ASEAN regions. This will allow us to make further contribution towards the promotion of decarbonization and sustainable local communities through the creation and sale of high-quality carbon credits.

◆Business Introduction of Green Carbon
Green Carbon operates with the vision of “Saving the Earth with the Power of Life”, by providing comprehensive support for the creation, registration, and sales of carbon credits in domestic and international markets. We are also expanding our business operations in wider industries including the agriculture, research & development, and ESG consulting. Our operations are primarily based in Japan and Southeast Asia, while currently expanding business in Australia and South America. We create naturally derived carbon credits from sources including water paddies, biochar, forest conservation, carbon farming, mangrove plantation, and methane from cattle eructation. Our main focus is on generating carbon credits through methane gas reduction in rice paddies, where we have obtained the first and largest certification for J-Credits in Japan (approximately 6,220 tons), and plan to expand to around 40,000 hectares (approximately 100,000 tons) in the fiscal year 2024.
