Q. Please give us a brief introduction of yourself, including your career history.
My name is Gratia Dearios Ompusunggu, and I’m in my final year of studying Accounting and Finance at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan. I’m originally from Riau, Indonesia, and I was drawn to this university because of its diverse community and strong focus on the Asia-Pacific region, which I find very inspiring.
Throughout my university life, I’ve balanced building meaningful friendships with a strong dedication to my studies. I’ve completed several internships in areas such as data analytics, accounts payable, and financial modeling, which have given me valuable practical experience in finance. Alongside my major, I developed a growing interest in sustainability, especially after taking courses that explore how sustainable practices and business can work hand in hand.
Currently, I’m gaining hands-on experience at Green Carbon, where I’m involved in projects like AGREEN and reforestation. This opportunity allows me to apply both my finance knowledge and my passion for sustainability in real-world settings.

Q. What kind of work are you involved in? Please tell us about your job responsibilities.
At the start of my internship, I was assigned to the research team, where I focused on researching projects, drafting grant proposals for the AGREEN project, and writing baseline reports on the areas Green Carbon plans to work in. After about a month, I transitioned to the operations team, which gave me a deeper insight into how Green Carbon’s projects are executed in practice. In this role, I prepare PowerPoint presentations for investors and create instructional videos to help farmers implement the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technique. As I am still interning, I’m excited to take on more responsibilities and continue learning.
What I really appreciate about this experience is the broad range of tasks I get to try, from detailed research and proposal writing to creating training materials and investor presentations. This variety has helped me develop strong multitasking abilities and gain a comprehensive understanding of project execution.
Q. What do you find rewarding about your work?
I find it really rewarding to work on a wide range of tasks, from researching projects and drafting grant proposals to creating training materials and presentations for investors and farmers. Each assignment lets me learn something new and develop practical skills, and it feels great to be contributing to projects that support sustainability.
Q. What challenges have you faced so far?
Working remotely was sometimes challenging, since it’s easy to misunderstand things or miss details. To make it easier, I started working from cafes or other fresh environments, which helped me stay focused. I also made sure to communicate more with my team, ask questions, and clarify anything I was unsure about. Their support made all the difference when overcoming these challenges!
Q. What has been the most rewarding part of working at Green Carbon?
Definitely the people! I’ve had such a positive experience with my supportive and friendly team, even while working remotely. I’ve also learned a lot about carbon credits and why they matter, and gained skills in analyzing reports, surveys, and making information concise and clear for different audiences.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself working in sustainable finance, helping direct investments toward projects and companies that make a positive impact on the environment. My experience at Green Carbon has shown me how finance and sustainability are closely connected, and inspired me to pursue a career where I can use my financial skills to drive real change.

Q. Finally, please give a message to those who want to work at GreenCarbon.
