Vol.31 Get closer to your dreams from level zero

This time we interviewed Nanoha, who who is currently interning in Global Sourcing Unit. We hope you enjoy it until the end!

Q. Please briefly introduce yourself, including your career.

I am Nanaha Irie, a third-year undergraduate student in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Economics, Sophia University. My goal is to take on a wider variety of challenges than anyone else in my university life, and I am constantly striving to do so, from traveling as a hobby, to participating in the university’s overseas training program and seminars, to this internship.

Most recently, I plan to study abroad in Croatia, where I will learn about environmental initiatives in Europe, and I would also like to try to expand my network of contacts through music, having been involved in music activities for 13 years since elementary school!

Q. What made you decide to work at GreenCarbon?

I was impressed by Green Carbon’s efforts to balance agricultural support with environmental considerations.

Having been a tenant farmer in my childhood, I still have a attachment to primary industries such as agriculture and fishery, and I have always had a sense of crisis about the recent environmental issues. From this experience, I began to think about contributing to the resolution of environmental issues, hoping to save those who are affected by environmental issues and those who are anxious about the environment, without separating them from nature.

I started job hunting little by little with this thought in mind, and at that time Green Carbon’s “Save the earth with the power of nature” initiative caught my attention. I felt that I could finally contribute to solving this issue and that I wanted to learn here, so I immediately applied. here I am today as an intern.

Q. What type of work are you involved in? Please tell us about your work

Currently, I am mainly involved in the preparation of documents required for project applications, the systematization of materials, and the associated research.

There is a lot to learn in preparing documents and organizing materials, such as interacting with multiple local languages in addition to English and Japanese, and creating sentences, tables, and figures, but the amount of time required for the large amount of information was enormous without ingenuity. Therefore, I gather information from various aspects and try to organize and process it as quickly as possible based on how it can be conveyed to everyone!

Q. What challenges have you faced so far?

I felt the biggest barrier was that my skills were too immature to be used in business. I remember that on the first day of my internship, it took me quite a while to launch each application from Google Drive. Looking back on my club activities, high school and university examinations, and studying for regular tests, I realize that I must have gotten into the habit of setting ad hoc goals and working to achieve them.

I was pretty impatient, so in the beginning I was and writing down every single computer and software function I learned that day and how to access them.

I still have many rudimentary questions, but the co-workers at Green Carbon are really helpful and I am learning every day by asking them many questions that I don’t understand!

Q. What do you want to try in the future?

My first goal is to thoroughly absorb basic terminology and the mechanics of project construction. Building on that foundation, I would like to be directly involved in executing new projects. Specifically, I hope to apply the knowledge I have gained to discover potential in new areas, farmers, or even other markets beyond agriculture, and to take on the challenge of making proposals based on those opportunities.

My dream now is to create a society in Japan in which it is commonplace to balance business and environmental improvement. It’s a big one, but in order to achieve this, I want to grow to the point where I can raise my voice to address current issues in neighboring countries!

Q.Finally, do you have a message for those who want to work at GreenCarbon?

GreenCarbon is a place where you can develop yourself at a very fast pace even if you are not interested in the environment or agriculture. Above all, the people in this company are highly competent and very kind. So, by setting my own goals, asking questions proactively (even though I get a little nervous every time), and getting advice, I feel that I am growing closer to my dreams every day!
