◆Background of Participation in this Event
Green Carbon has been working on the creation of nature-based carbon credits, primarily in Southeast Asia. We are involved in a wide range of projects, including forest conservation, rice paddies, mangrove reforestation, reducing cow burps, and biochar projects. We develop carbon credit creation projects that are tailored to the characteristics of natural resources in each region, and by utilizing satellite data for site selection and monitoring, we ensure efficient and transparent project management.
In particular, Green Carbon is focusing on carbon credit projects in Thailand, utilizing AWD (Alternative Wetting and Drying) in rice paddies and biochar. Agriculture in Thailand is both a major industry contributing to the country’s GDP and a sector highly vulnerable to climate change. By introducing the technology of Green Carbon, it is expected that agricultural sustainability will improve and the carbon credit market will be activated. At this event, we proposed an innovative carbon credit creation model integrating climate data and agricultural data, which received high praise from the judges, including Weathernews.

◆Proposal Overview
Green Carbon presented on the theme of “The Future of Climate Data × Carbon Credits × Agriculture.” By utilizing high-precision meteorological data provided by Weathernews Inc., we proposed a solution to optimize the creation of carbon credits in the agricultural sector, which is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The judges, including Mr. Nishibayashi from Weathernews, highly praised our approach as “an effective method to improve the quality of carbon credits in agriculture.”
Key Points of the Proposal |
---|
<Introduction of Advanced Risk Assessment> Strengthen risk evaluation in carbon credit projects by utilizing the meteorological data provided by Weathernews Inc., enhancing investor confidence and stabilizing the business. |
<AI and IoT-Driven AWD Monitoring> Achieving improved credit quality and reduced burden on farmers through accurate data collection. |
<Establishing Climate-Resilient Agriculture> Combining climate data with agricultural data to promote productivity improvement, the development of adaptive farming methods, and integration with agricultural insurance. |
◆Comments from Mr. Nishibayashi, a Weathernews judge
We envision Green Carbon and Weathernews collaborating to leverage the WxTech API to mitigate risks and maximize profits in Thailand’s agricultural sector. We anticipate valuable synergies by combining our longstanding expertise in climate adaptation with our robust solutions in the mitigation field.
◆Future Outlook
In response to this award, Green Carbon plans to collaborate with Weathernews on data utilization and initiate a demonstration project in the Thai market. The following steps are planned for future development.
STEP①:Selection of rice paddy field for AWD application in Thailand (Q2 2025) |
STEP②:Demonstration of risk assessment using meteorological data provided by Weathernews Inc. (Q3 2026) |
STEP③:Pilot implementation of a monitoring system utilizing AI and IoT(2026) |
STEP④:Market expansion toward full-scale deployment |
Through this project, we aim to enhance farmers’ income, develop the carbon credit market, and establish a sustainable agricultural model.

◆Business Introduction of Green Carbon
Green Carbon operates with the vision of “Saving the Earth with the Power of Life”, by providing comprehensive support for the creation, registration, and sales of carbon credits in domestic and international markets. We are also expanding our business operations in wider industries including agriculture, research & development, and ESG consulting.
Our operations are primarily based in Japan and Southeast Asia, while currently expanding business in Australia and South America. We create naturally derived carbon credits from sources including water paddies, biochar, forest conservation, carbon farming, mangrove plantation, and methane from cattle eructation. Our main focus is on generating carbon credits through methane gas reduction in rice paddies, where we have obtained the first and largest certification for J-Credits in Japan (approximately 6,220 tons), and plan to expand to around 40,000 hectares (approximately 100,000 tons) in the fiscal year 2024. We also offer a service called “Agreen” that integrates credit registration, application, and sales into one platform, simplifying procedures such as application registration and document preparation, thus reducing workload for credit creators.
