Vol.12 Interns experience challenge and growth

This time we interviewed intern Yuuka Shimizu. Please read to the end!

Q.Please give a brief introduction about yourself, including your school life so far

Hello! I became interested in the environment after I saw a mountain of rubbish in the Philippines during the summer of my sophomore year of high school and realised that the rubbish was contributing to environmental problems. This led me to go to university in the USA after high school, and I am now studying sustainability at Stony Brook University in the State of New York.

This is my third year living in the USA and every day is a series of discoveries, but I am gradually getting used to it. My hobbies are checking out trends and researching make-up, as I love fashion and cosmetics (laughs). Also, relaxing on the beach watching the sunset is one of my favourite things to do. It’s only a few more weeks until the new semester starts, but I’m looking forward to enjoying the last summer of my university life to the fullest!

Q.What made you decide to work for GreenCarbon?

I transferred to my current university to study the environment more professionally. I started looking for an internship because I wondered how what I was studying at university could be used in society. I learnt many things in my university classes, such as how much methane gas is produced from rice paddies and how much it affects the environment, and that greenhouse gases are produced from cow burps. After doing some research on the internet, I found that GreenCarbon was a company where I thought I could make use of what I had learned, and this is when I decided to intern at the company.

Q.When do you find your work rewarding?

I am currently in charge of the international business unit and ESG consultancy work, and it has been almost two months since I started my internship. During this period, as I have gained many new experiences, I have had more and more moments when I feel that my work is worthwhile. I find it particularly rewarding when I am able to organise the tasks I am entrusted with in my own way and, as a result of advice from employees, realise that I can apply what I have learnt to the next task I undertake. Being able to experience growth through every job is a great motivation for me.

Q.What challenges have you faced so far?

One major challenge is to keep facing new things every day (laughs). Every time we are faced with an unknown problem, we need to develop the knowledge and skills to solve it. At first, the sheer volume of these problems can be overwhelming, but through these experiences, I am able to develop problem-solving methods and flexible thinking.

Q.Finally, do you have a message for those who want to work for GreenCarbon?

GreenCarbon is a company where everyone can challenge themselves, regardless of their internship. Through my internship at GreenCrabon, I am also stimulated on a daily basis and gain new experiences and knowledge. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to work in the environment, improve their skills and take on new challenges! Why don’t you come and work with us at GreenCarbon?
