Development of JCM (Joint Crediting Mechanism) projects in Thailand
Green Carbon Inc. (CEO: Jun Okita, hereinafter referred to as “Green Carbon”) is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding joint research for the formation of a reforestation project under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), with SENA Reforestation Co., Ltd (Headquarters: Bangkok, Thailand, Representative: Ms. Kessara Thanyalakpark, hereinafter referred to as “SRF”), which operates and manages afforestation mainly in Thailand.
◆Background and Partnership Details of the Basic Agreement
Green Carbon is actively engaged in the creation of carbon credits derived from natural sources, focusing primarily on Southeast Asia. We have a wide range of initiatives, including reducing methane emissions from rice paddies and cattle, as well as biochar projects. While our previous efforts in Thailand primarily centered around rice paddy projects, our contact with SRF, which operates and manages afforestation in Thailand, has prompted us to embark on forming a reforestation project under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Thailand.
The structure of this project entails Green Carbon overseeing the overall design of the JCM project, securing buyer investors, and providing advice on the afforestation project, while SRF will be responsible for introducing afforestation sites in Thailand and project management. This year, we aim to qualify for the JCM project and will conduct joint research and implementation. While the economic scale is still under investigation, we plan to carry out afforestation on a land area of 2,000 hectares.
