Vol.27 Expanding horizons through internship

We interviewed Hayaka, who is currently interning in the Domestic Business Unit. We hope you enjoy the interview!

Q.Please introduce yourself briefly.

I am currently a fourth-year student in university and belong to the Faculty of Agriculture. At the university, I am deepening my practical learning not only through classroom lectures but also by actually growing crops on the university’s plots, conducting practical training with farmers, and conducting interviews. Although originally a science major, I am currently majoring in agricultural economics, which also has elements of the humanities.

In my free time, I love reading and immersing myself in the world of books. During my college years, I also hope to broaden my horizons by traveling to different places.

Q.What made you decide to work at GreenCarbon?

While studying a wide range of knowledge about agriculture at university, I came to feel that the realization of “sustainable agriculture” is an important issue, especially from the perspective of the SDGs, which have been the focus of much attention in recent years. On the other hand, when I thought about what kind of initiatives are actually being undertaken in society, I realized that I knew very little about them. Therefore, in researching agriculture-related businesses, I came across Green Carbon’s business. I decided to work for Green Carbon because I thought I could deepen my understanding of my field of expertise by taking the knowledge I had learned at university from a business perspective as well.

Q.What type of work are you involved in? Please tell us about your work.

I am involved in the management of the Rice Crop Consortium Office () in the Domestic Business Department. I support farmers with their applications and manage the status of their applications.

I am also working on other research related to carbon farming and biochar in order to launch new projects.

Q.What makes your job worthwhile?

When I first started as an intern, I understood very little about the J-Credit System, but recently I have grown to be able to respond to questions from farmers. In addition, I often work in cooperation with other interns in the domestic business division, and since they are all very talented, I am able to work while always being stimulated.

Q. What do you want to challenge in the future?

First, we would like to carefully provide support to farmers who are currently working on their applications. Since there are many new interns joining us this year, we would like to share information about their work as appropriate, and work together as a team to provide smooth support. In addition, I would like to be actively involved in the launch of new projects that are currently underway and do my best to make them a reality.

Q.Finally, do you have a message for those who want to work at GreenCarbon?

Working as an intern at Green Carbon has not only deepened my understanding of agriculture-related businesses, which I have always been interested in, but I also feel that my world has expanded through working with the employees and interns. I think it is a valuable environment for those who are interested in the environment and agribusiness to be exposed to cutting-edge initiatives.
