Q. Please tell us about yourself, including your career background.Department of Civil Engineering
My name is Ameri Murakami. I am a first-year master’s student in the Department of Civil Engineering, Graduate School of Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science. At university, I studied a wide range of civil engineering subjects, including urban planning, environmental engineering, and hydrology. I am currently a member of the Urban Meteorology Laboratory, where I am conducting research aimed at proposing new measures to combat the urban heat island phenomenon by utilising the temperature-reducing effects of green spaces and rivers within cities. My studies at university and my research activities sparked my interest in climate change issues, and after being introduced to Green Carbon by Mr. Okamura, a member of the same laboratory, I joined the company, which is engaged in environmental issues.
Q. What made you want to work at GreenCarbon?
The biggest catalyst was my research on the heat island phenomenon. This experience sparked my interest in environmental issues, and I became interested in working on projects to reduce environmental impact. At that time, Mr. Okamura from the same laboratory introduced me to Green Carbon and carbon credits, which made me want to work for a company at the forefront of environmental issues.
Q. What challenges have you faced so far?
Although I was interested in environmental issues, I had no knowledge of rice cultivation or agriculture. Therefore, at first, I found it extremely difficult to understand everything I saw and heard, as I did not understand the terminology. However, by gradually learning and increasing my knowledge, I am now able to respond without fear when I encounter technical terms.
Q. What kind of work are you involved in? Please tell us about your job duties.
I am mainly involved in carbon credit operations related to domestic rice paddies. I check the documents submitted by farmers to ensure that there are no errors and that they are suitable for applying for carbon credits. At first, I was confused by all the unfamiliar terms, but I gradually got used to the work by resolving my questions one by one. Currently, I am increasingly involved in other tasks such as research, and I feel that I am gradually growing in my role.
Q. What do you want to be in 10 years?
I find it appealing that everyone working at Green Carbon, whether they are employees or interns, is motivated to improve and continues to grow. In 10 years I’ll be in my 8th year as a working professional, but I want to continue to have the same drive to improve and grow as all of you do.
Q. Finally, please share a message for those who want to work at GreenCarbon.
I feel that Green Carbon is a company that supports challenges. Another characteristic is the close relationship between employees. This environment, where you can ask questions immediately when you have them, promotes growth and provides full support when you want to take on a challenge. Let’s work together in this vibrant workplace!
