Q. Please introduce yourself briefly, including your career to date.
My name is Arisa Hayashi, a second-year student in the Department of Legal Studies of the Global Environment at the Faculty of Law, Sophia University. I have always been interested in subjects like earth science, geography, and global environmental issues. Wanting to study something more practical, I chose to focus on environmental law within my legal studies at university. I am particularly interested in laws related to outer space, such as space debris, and I plan to join a seminar on international environmental law starting in my third year.
One of my hobbies is drawing, and I often paint landscapes from places I visit while traveling. Being surrounded by beautiful nature makes me feel a strong desire to preserve it.
Q. What kind of work are you involved in?
Currently, I mainly support Mr. Doi in his work while also engaging in research and project planning. Specifically, I often work from the early stages of an idea, exploring questions such as “What would be needed to make this idea a reality?” or “Are there any similar cases elsewhere?” The scope of research is broad, covering areas such as environmental policies, technological trends, and industry practices. I take part in the process of assessing feasibility while constantly keeping up with new information. Rather than simply collecting data, I always try to approach my work with the mindset of “How can we interpret the available information and connect it to the next action?”
Q. What would you like to challenge yourself with in the future?
Going forward, I hope to take on more opportunities to be actively involved from the early stages of projects. I want to engage more deeply in the process of building ideas from scratch, while grappling with fundamental questions such as “Why are we pursuing this initiative in the first place?” Through this, I aim to strengthen my ability to develop and refine proposals by offering my own perspectives, forming hypotheses, and conducting research and analysis. In the future, I aspire to become someone who can identify key themes and challenges on their own and bring people together to turn those ideas into reality.
Q. What do you find most rewarding or fulfilling about your work?
Although I am working as an intern, I find it incredibly rewarding to be entrusted with responsibilities and given the autonomy to take initiative. Rather than simply completing assigned tasks, I’m encouraged to identify issues, think through solutions, propose ideas, and take action — a valuable opportunity to experience the full process. While there are certainly challenges along the way, they come with meaningful learning experiences and a strong sense of personal growth. I feel especially fulfilled and motivated when I see the research or ideas I’ve contributed being incorporated into actual projects.
Q. Finally, do you have a message for people who want to work at Green Carbon?
Green Carbon offers an incredibly supportive environment for those who are eager to take on challenges. The team is friendly and open, and there’s a culture where everyone—regardless of role or experience—can freely share their opinions. Even when I don’t know something, I feel comfortable asking questions, and people are always willing to say, “Let’s think it through together.” This mindset has naturally encouraged me to take initiative. It’s thanks to this environment that I’ve come to feel, “I’ll just give it a try.”
For those who want to be proactive, tackle social issues, and grow while learning, I’m sure the experience here will be both stimulating and deeply rewarding.
