Green Carbon Inc. has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with San Benito for a mangrove reforestation project on Siargao Island, Philippines.

Green Carbon Inc. (CEO: Jun Okita, hereinafter referred to as “Green Carbon”) is pleased to announce that we have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the local government of San Benito for a mangrove reforestation project on*¹Siargao Island, Philippines. This agreement aims to create carbon credits over an area of approximately 10,000 hectares.

◆Background and Overview of the MoA with San Benito
GreenCarbon is engaged in generating nature-based carbon credits, mainly in Southeast Asia, through various initiatives including paddy fields, reduction of methane emissions from livestock, and biochar projects. Particularly in the Philippines, we have been actively developing mangrove reforestation projects. To advance our efforts on Siargao Island, we have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the local government of San Benito and held a signing ceremony with the Mayor and Vice Mayor of San Benito.
The project aims to reforest and conserve mangrove forests along the coast of Siargao Island, which have been depleted due to past logging and natural disasters. Through these activities, we seek to create carbon credits. Collaborating with our partner, the University of the Philippines, we conduct preliminary investigations, including examining soil characteristics and tree species, selecting appropriate species, and clarifying biodiversity, all of which will inform the reforestation and conservation plan. This preliminary research will continue until the end of this year. After obtaining the necessary permits and approvals, the project is expected to commence in full in 2025.
The reforestation activities will be planned and managed with the local government, the University of the Philippines, and OCEANUS, an NGO with a proven track record in the field of mangrove reforestation.
