Vol.22 Sharing and Bringing Knowledge to Life

This time, we interviewed Kota Tsukakoshi, who is working as an intern in the Global Sourcing Unit. Please read through to the end!

Q. Could you please share a brief introduction about yourself?

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Washington in Washington State, USA, majoring in Environmental Studies. I originally came from a humanities background, but I decided to pursue what truly interests me and shifted to focus primarily on science in college.

I’ve always loved traveling and often find myself wandering to places that catch my interest. Recently, I’ve been drawn to Japan’s remote islands, traveling light in both body and spirit.

Q. What inspired you to join GreenCarbon?

At university, most of my classes were lecture-based, leaving little opportunity to apply the knowledge I had gained. Since my major, Environmental Studies, explores the relationship between natural sciences and society, I felt it was essential to balance theoretical learning with hands-on experiences like fieldwork. As I searched for opportunities to engage in activities outside of university, I came across Green Carbon. I was inspired to work there because I wanted to view the knowledge I had gained at university from a business perspective, allowing me to deepen my understanding of my field from a more multifaceted viewpoint.

Q. What do you find rewarding about your work?

I was assigned to the Global Sourcing Unit, where I encounter unfamiliar terms and concepts daily, as well as the challenge of cross-referencing English materials with my knowledge in Japanese. Despite these difficulties, I find the work incredibly rewarding to the point where the struggles don’t bother me at all. The more I work, the better I understand this field, gaining practical, on-the-ground knowledge that I would not have acquired at university. This has allowed me to deepen my existing knowledge into a more practical domain. Additionally, frequent events and networking opportunities provide inspiration as I listen to others share their experiences, which helps keep me motivated.

Q. What are your future goals or aspirations?

My personal goal is to transform Japan into a fully sustainable society. I believe that the best place to start working toward this goal is on remote islands. These islands have the greatest need for a sustainable society, and for that reason, I think achieving sustainability there is more feasible and can be realized sooner compared to other areas. Moving forward, I want to take my first steps toward this goal through my activities with Green Carbon.

Q. Could you share a message for those who are interested in working at GreenCarbon?

I believe that the carbon credits Green Carbon focuses on are highly versatile. As global attention to environmental issues grows, their value will rise, and there is potential for an economic ecosystem to emerge where even individuals can participate. If you are someone who wants to be involved with a company at the forefront of this movement, let’s work together toward a better future!
